Hi,

I am contemplating installing a outdoor kitchen. Obviously I will need a kitchen sink. Are there any special grde stainless steel sinks for outdoor use? or can I use a regular stainless steel sink from an old kitchen?

Hey Envey,

Wow, an outdoor kitchen sounds fabulous! There isn't a special grade
of stainless steel for outdoor kitchens, they won't corrode and are
well suited for resisting weather abuse, but buy a good one because it
IS going to be outside. You might want to consider ceramic as well.

We built an outdoor kitchen/bar on our poolhouse about a year ago and ended up going with a stainless steel sink - so I think that using an old sink as you mentioned would be just fine - and cost effective.

Here's some more information:
Stainless steel is the most popular kind of outdoor sink. It has resiliency that makes it low-maintenance. However, if exposed to too much moisture it may rust.

Stone is impervious to sun and rain, but you need to reseal it every year. Granite and marble sinks are stunning, but the price might stun you, too. Stone sinks are expensive and might not be a good choice if you live in a polluted area.

If you want something low-maintenance and stain-and rust-resistent, you should consider a ceramic or cast iron sink. When you go to the local hardware store, ask an employee to show you sinks that can be installed outdoors. I'm sure a ceramic or stainless steel sink could survive rain and snow pretty well. You need to make sure you have the correct building materials so you don't damage your new seek with moisture or extreme temperatures.
